Andrew Deanda, 43, of San Jose, was arrested Monday at a home on Houndshaven Way in San Jose and was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of 44 counts of burglary.

The San Jose police investigation, dubbed Operation Flat Tire, was launched six months ago after the burglary prevention unit noticed an increase in thefts of expensive bikes and construction equipment, especially in the downtown area.

An uptick in local home burglaries has homeowners taking matters into their own hands while police have few leads.
