Naughty or Nice, Every Politician Wants Something This Holiday Season

Folks at the North Pole have been inundated with holiday wish lists from local politicos. Here are some of the requests they have received:

Mayor Chuck Reed begged for a new baseball stadium this year … again.

San Jose Councilmember Pierluigi Oliverio requested a new police chief and was very specific about who would fit in his stocking.

Debra Figone requested Councilmember Oliverio put a sock in it.

SJSU Students asked for everyone earning minimum wage in San Jose to receive a raise. Christmas came early for them, with the South Bay Labor Council serving as worker elves.

The City of Santa Clara wants to host a Super Bowl in 2016.

Republicans in California, who got what they asked for early last year, can expect coal in their stockings for the foreseeable future as a result.

The very reasonable Supervsior Mike Wasserman would like a new voter registration application as soon as possible.

Governor Jerry Brown wants nothing more than to send a thank you note to voters for the vast riches they approved this year.

Milpitas City Councilwoman Debbie Giordano asked for a new mailbox.

Sam Liccardo would like a new bike for everybody to fill his new downtown lanes.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi asked for new independent redistricting commissions for all the states of the union, so that when Democrat representatives outpoll Republicans by one million votes nationally—like this year—she can take her rightful place as Speaker of the House.

These are just a few of the requests made this holiday season. As per our culture, and to the disdain of FOX News’ proclaimed war on Christmas; Americans routinely ask for “free stuff” this time of year. In fact, our economy depends on it.

So, if we can avoid the end of the world on December 21 and the “fiscal cliff” on January 1, we can look forward to at least four years of economic growth. That is the gift we all gave ourselves in November.

Thank you to President Obama, or as the Republicans refer to him, Santa Claus.

  1. “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until a majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing…”

Democrats are always eager to smugly point out that this quote has been misattributed to it’s presumed author- Alexander Tytler. As if this changes something. I don’t care who said it. Or even if nobody said it. I’m sayin’ it. And it’s true. And it’s what’s going on with the expansion of the entitlement mentality that Obama has tapped into and which Democrat politicians exploit. So we conservatives are puzzled because from our perspective what Rich Robinson is crowing about amounts to nothing less than the decline and fall of the American Republic.
We can continue to deny human nature at our peril. Liberal policies, despite the brainy egghead theorizing of elitist progressive academics, is exacerbating the problem of the ever-widening gulf between the upper and lower classes.

  2. Rich,

let’s face the facts, we are all being $$$%% on all levels of government from the Feds to Chuck.

BOHICA for another 4 years.  Put any spin on it you want, thats what you do and get well paid for it.

  3. Rich,

Waiting your comments on how we ARE NOT getting screwed by feds and state.  I wish I was as rich as you.  Over 1/4 of taxable income so far this year going to feds and state.  Does not include property taxes, sales taxes, prop 30.  When will the blood letting end.  So much for living in CA.

And now this fear factor of BS fiscal cliff, fancy name to stick it to the middle income again under YOUR PRESIDENT.  250 K is not upper class for a two income family in this valley. Oh and the feds want to take away interest on home loans.  YES this country is heading to a huge recession.  Don’t blame it on parties, this is a govt. shake down.

  4. > We have a debt caused by two wars, a big pharma program, the Bush tax cuts and a national recession.

Tax cuts do not cause government debt.

    Government spending causes government debt.

And, by the way, the Obama regime (David Axelrod and David Plouffe) are MASTERS at misdirection:  “Look over there! A shiny object!”

Obama DOESN’T NEED tax increases on “the rich”.  He has all the money he needs to spend from the Federal Reserve.  The so-called “Quantitative Easing 3” is just money printing by the Federal Reserve, which lends it to Obama, who spends it.

“Tax increases on the rich” is just a phony issue.

In the timeless words of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynahan, it’s just “boob bait” for the Democrat “bubbas”.

Obama could cut ALL federal income taxes to zero—personal taxes and corporate taxes—and STILL spend all for federal money he wants until the dollar is totally worthless—AFTER HE IS OUT OF OFFICE!

The re-election of Obama sadly proves the undeniable truth that in the long run, “democracy” inevitably results in government by the stupidist, greediest, and most narcissistic fifty and a half percent of the population.  And that’s the Obama base.

    • Lou,

Where would you cut Lou?  Your elementary understanding of macro economics is idiotic and has been rejected by reality over and over again.  To you a recession or depression is “no big deal”—the religion of capitalism with eventually “right the ship”.

That is wrong and always has been. . . the binge of the rich is over.  For thirty years we have had trickle on policies that have exacerbated our debt, rewarded only a few and caused real harm to the poor and middle class.  Over fifty percent of Americans are poor—and, damn straight they voted for this President.

The policies of giving the rich more will kill not only the economy of the poor—but the economy of the rich.  At some point,  no consumers spells disaster for the richest Americans—it is the poor an middle class who keep them wealthy.

You and the Atlas Shrugged people have had your 15 minutes and its over—come down off BS mountain and join the rest of the world.

  5. The republicans are not patriots…they are proven obstructionist. The PEOPLE of this country saw that and that is why they lost so badly. The country cannot move forward until everybody starts working together.

  6. A 2% increase in the highest rate will not hurt anybody.  Including those who make over $250,000—because the rate doesn’t go up until you make $250,001—so everything you make after $250,000 gets taxed at the higher rate (of 2%).

Our President doesn’t govern by fiat.  Get your Republican friends in the house to vote for the tax extensiton for 98% of Americans.  Think about it, the Republicans are getting 96% of what they want. . .and they want the President to compromise.  Really?

We have a debt caused by two wars, a big pharma program, the Bush tax cuts and a national recession.  The President is offering a plan that cuts spending and increases revenues on those who can afford it.  What is it about patriotism these people don’t get?

This country was in the worst recession ever, this President got us out with a stimulus package—and all he gets is more critisism from morons who don’t understant the difference between micro and macro economics.  We have has the slowest rate of govt growth under this President.  To reverse it we need the economy to move forward,  by playing politics with the “fiscal cliff” the Republicans continue to ignore reality and election results.

Hope this satifies your need to know.
