Suspects in separate slayings on July 12 and July 15 were taken into custody without incident.

Hundreds of health care and support workers at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City are striking today, calling for better working conditions and a new contract. Picketing began at 6 a.m. at the hospital located at 170 Alameda de las Pulgas. Nurses assistants, aides, surgical technologists, respiratory therapists, cooks and others took part in the demonstration, according to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 829.

The officer, who has not been identified, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

San Jose police responded to a report of a shooting at 6am July 15 at the Plant Shopping Center in the area of Monterey Road and Curtner Avenue.

City officials in Los Altos have announced the appointment of Angela Averiett as police chief. “I am humbled to serve the Los Altos community as the police chief and eager to get to work,” Averiett said. “My commitment to safety, accountability, fairness, and equity will strive to ensure the well-being of all who live, work, and travel through Los Altos.”

Averiett has more than 25 years of experience in policing and law enforcement.

Residents don't need to relocate during the spraying, since the treatment poses minimal risk to people, pets, animals and the environment, according to Santa Clara County.
